Hello everyone! I’m so happy to be back on my blog writing again. We moved about two months ago, and I’m finally starting to feel settled in. So much has happened in the last few weeks – it’s nuts! I have a new job and my college class is starting up next week. I’m so grateful for all the good things that have come into our lives, but this week something happened that made me feel like my life completely fell apart in the matter of a few hours.
Our cat, Marvin, escaped through our window on Sunday night.
Our cat, Marvin, escaped!
Ugh. To tell you the truth, I did not handle that situation well at all. It was the worst feeling ever. I’ve had Marvin for about seven years now, and this was the first time ever losing him. We left a window open without realizing there was no screen, and our cat escaped in the middle of the night.
When I finally realized he was gone the next morning we were devastated. Danny tried to comfort me, but I truly believed that I was never going to see Marvin ever again. My mind instantly went to the darkest places. I walked up and down the street expecting to find Marvin’s body or that a dog got him. We looked for him all day, but I returned home that evening empty handed.
It was such a stressful situation. I didn’t even know how I was going to make it through the rest of the week. I prayed that he would return, but I was so tired of searching I went to bed early that night. Danny was still doing things around the house so much to my surprise he was the one who brought Marvin back inside that night! He explained how he heard meowing coming from our neighbor’s fenced in driveway and he went to investigate. Sure enough, Marvin was trapped in there! We also have a cat that hangs around our front porch all day and night that seemed so concerned for Marvin. He’s not really our cat but we do feed him and let him sleep in a flower pot outside. Well, he was actually sleeping in the flower pot before
My husband rang the neighbor’s doorbell twice, but he eventually had to climb into the driveway to pick up Marvin and get him back home. What a great husband I have.
Thinking back on it I shouldn’t have been so worried. I think something that really helped Marvin come back was me putting his litter box and bed outside. It wasn’t even an hour later and he was already meowing to come back inside. Cats are smart, even indoor ones, and they can find their way back home. They’re not as dependent as we think they are. : ) But I’m still going to take every extra precaution to prevent this mess from happening again!
